Sorven Media has signed Copenhagen Communiqué

Sorven Media Ltd has sign the Copenhagen Communiqué.

The Copenhagen Communiqué is a short, punchy statement that draws on some of the key thinking on climate policy that has emerged from the international business community over the past two years, and sets out the business case for a strong and effective UN climate framework.

The Copenhagen Communiqué is an initiative of The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders' Group on Climate Change (CLG) which is run by The University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership.

Top 10 Greenwash Alerts

  1. Fluffy language Words or terms with no clear meaning, eg “eco-friendly”.
  2. Green products v dirty company Such as efficient light bulbs made in a polluting factory.
  3. Suggestive picturesImages that indicate a (unjustified) green impact, eg flowers blooming from an exhaust pipe.
  4. Irrelevant claimsEmphasising one tiny green attribute when everything else is ungreen.
  5. Best in class?Declaring you are slightly greener than the rest, even if the rest are pretty terrible.
  6. Just not credible“Eco-friendly” cigarettes, anyone? “Greening” a potentially dangerous item doesn’t make it safe.
  7. GobbledygookJargon and information that only a scientist could check or understand.
  8. Imaginary friendsA “label” that looks like third-party endorsement… except it’s made up.
  9. No proof - It could be right, but where’s the evidence?
  10. Outright lying- Totally fabricated claims or data.

Top Ten Ways to Keep Eco-Healthy

Below we have listed 10 way to keep yourself Eco-Healthy these holidays.

1. Take Your Vitamins! Keeping healthy on the inside is one of the best ways to feel healthy on the outside. Make sure to get your supplements from eco-friendly stores such as Higher Nature or Holland and Barrett. Keeping your body healthy stops you from craving extra foods and therefore creating surplus waste!

2. Use Natural Skin Products There are plenty of eco-stores selling amazing green skin products that use only natural ingredients and haven't been tested on animals. These products are kinder on your skin and produced more sustainably than other commercial cosmetic products. Once you've finished your current foundation or body lotion replace it with more natural products and reap the benefits.

3. Organic, Unbleached Clothing and Bedding Products Kinder on your skin and good for the environment try to buy un-dyed and un-bleached clothing and bedding wherever possible.

4. Exercise Outside Avoid the gym and exercise outside instead! Running, yoga, power-walking, swimming... a lot of these activities can be done outdoors saving you money and lowering your carbon footprint!

5. Eat 'Green' Foods Try to eat organic, fairtrade, natural, un-processed and local foods. Not only are these better for the environment but cutting out processed foods has been proven to be better for your health and your body! Drink plenty of water instead of carbonated drinks and try to snack on natural plants, seeds and products.

6. Turn It Off Turn off your electronic products. Try to avoid charging your phone or laptop unnecessarily and avoid some of the health risks that can come with using a computer or phone too much. Cut out those headaches, save on your energy bill and reduce your carbon footprint all in one!

7. Spend Time Outside Get some fresh air! Spending more time outdoors is better for your body and helps avoid spending hours in front of the Tv.

8. Go Vintage! Shopping at thrift stores saves you money and can revamp your wardrobe to bring you into the fashion-forward lane! Look amazing whilst recycling old clothes, what a great excuse to go shopping.

9. Plan Ahead! Sticking to your goals and plans without being distracted by the commercialisation of the world can help keep you focused and happy. You can save money simply by sticking to your shopping list and not being taken in by the fancy displays! Never get the post-shopping blues again!

10. Walk the Dog Walking the dog combines exercise, fresh air and bonding with your special pet! Getting outside of the house for a set amount of time each day can reduce stress and help keep you (and your pooch) trim... what an eco treat!

The Green Lighthouse - Denmark's First Public Carbon Neutral Building

Public authorities, the private business community and concerned citizens are all trying to do the math and decide how to contribute to reductions in CO2 emissions and thereby how to face the climate challenge.

The building industry is one of the most energy consuming industries. This is why the University of Copenhagen now collaborates with VELUX, VELFAC, the Danish University and Property Agency (UBST) and the City of Copenhagen on building this climate-friendly house of the future. The house has been finished within less than a year and before the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen starts in December.

Green Lighthouse is placed at the Faculty of Science and will contain service functions for students, meeting facilities and a faculty club for researchers. Green Lighthouse is built by a consortium consisting of Hellerup Byg, Christensen & Co. Arkitekter and COWI, which has developed the architecture and energy concept and has constructed this new climate landmark.

Green Ligthhouse was officially inaugurated on 20 October 2009.

Budget to include electric car tax break

Company drivers who choose electric cars are to be exempt from benefit in kind (BiK) tax for five years from April 2012. Electric cars currently attract a tax rate of 9 per cent.

The exemption was announced the weel as part of the Pre-Budget report given by Alistair Darling. The Chancellor is keen to increase the number of electric cars used by company drivers. At present, only 50 of the 1.1 million company cars in Britain are electric.

Employers will also receive inducements to switch to electric vehicles. National Insurance contributions on company cars paid by employers will be reduced by £480 per car per year. A motorist driving an electric car pays already pays no vehicle excise duty (road tax), no congestion charges and no fuel tax because no petrol is used.

The tax rate exemption will coincide with the launch of the world’s first mass production car, the Nissan Leaf, as well as four models from Renault.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Tax breaks are a useful means of promoting electric cars in their early days, but if the uptake is significant they will not be financially or environmentally sustainable.”
